Team Teddy – 5K Friday

Written by Jen Fusco Hoye, Team Teddy

In my experience, grieving after a loved one’s suicide can be incredibly isolating. Friends and family may not know how to respond or what to say; and, as a result, become distant or disappear.

The first year we organized Team Teddy in memory of my brother, Teddy Fusco, I felt overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support – and not just from my own team members … from everyone I encountered: Samaritans staff and volunteers, other families and their supporters; in the team area, at the ribbon wall, and throughout the entire day.

The Samaritans 5K Run/Walk for Suicide Prevention is not only a celebration of those we have lost, but it is also an incredibly inclusive and love-filled event that shows survivors that we are not alone, we are never alone. This will mark our third year as Team Teddy; and I hope that I can pay forward the love, support, and healing that have been shared with me.
