April: How to Support our Mission This Month

We believe that every person is precious and deserving of the support and compassion they need to feel hope again. We know that a world without suicide is possible and within our reach. But we also know that preventing suicide and supporting those who are struggling takes all of us, because mental health is a concern that touches everyone.

Will you join us in that effort? Learn more about how you can get involved with Samaritans in the coming month:

  • Cheer on our Boston Marathon Team: Come out to cheer for the amazing 14 runners who are part of Team Samaritans. Good luck Abigail, Dana, Elsa, Garrett, Jack, Jaidan, Jennifer, Kate, Kimberly, Kyle, Meghan, Nicky, Pam, and Taylor!

  • Attend the Breakfast for Hope: This annual event will showcase our lifesaving services, celebrate progress, and allow us to raise vital funds for suicide prevention. The big event will take place on Thursday, May 19th from 8-9am at the The Westin Copley Place, with registration & reception starting at 7:30am. We would like to invite you to join us, and we would like to ask you to share this event with your network of friends, family, and colleagues so that we can come together as a movement of people committed to breaking the stigma of suicide.

  • Promote Hey Sam: This month we have started a new service. Hey Sam is a dedicated peer-to-peer texting service for people up to 24 years old. Designed for and staffed by young people, Hey Sam gives youth the opportunity to reach peers if they are struggling, need someone to talk to, or are seeking support. Now that this new service is up and running, we need Hey Sam volunteers, and we also need young people to know that this service is available.  If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a Hey Sam volunteer, please fill out a volunteer inquiry form.  Please also share about Hey Sam with all the young people in your life.

  • Help Us Grow Our Social Media Reach: To ensure that more people are aware of Samaritans and the support available to them, we need to expand the reach of our social media presence. Please select 5 people in your life who don’t know about Samaritans, and ask them to follow us on social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter).
