For 50 years, we have been answering calls from people who are feeling lonely, struggling with thoughts of suicide, or in need of emotional support. No matter what a caller is going through, we are here to listen with kindness and compassion.
Staff and volunteers shared their experiences working on our Helpline back in 2003.
It’s not like talking to me for 15 minutes is going to make them not lonely anymore. But for 15 minutes, they weren’t lonely.
In the past 50 years, we have trained 6,500 volunteers to provide compassionate and nonjudgmental listening, and have answered 3 million calls, texts, and chats on our Helpline. We look forward to another 50 years of providing hope and compassion to callers in need of a friendly ear on the other end of the phone.
