Online Suicide Support Groups for Loss Survivors

Offering Online Care to Suicide Loss Survivors

Losing a loved one to suicide is a profoundly painful and challenging experience. At Samaritans, we offer nonjudgmental listening and peer support through our virtual SafePlace Meetings, which are online support groups for suicide loss survivors.

Our virtual SafePlace meetings are open to anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide. These peer support groups are facilitated by trained volunteers who have experienced a similar loss, creating a compassionate and understanding environment. Unlike professional therapy groups, SafePlace meetings focus on peer support, offering a space to explore feelings that may be difficult for others to understand. Participants can share helpful resources and support each other through the long process of grieving. Meetings are free, ongoing, and available on a drop-in basis.

Virtual SafePlace Meetings for Suicide Grief Support

Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening
7:00 pm – 8:30 pm ET
Zoom meeting details provided after registration

Everyone is welcome to join our virtual meetings at any time after their loss, whether it has been a few weeks, months, or even years. Before joining, we encourage individuals to consider the following questions: Am I ready to talk about my loss? Can I share the airtime with others? Will I be comfortable listening to others discuss their losses? If the answer to any of these questions is no, or if you are unsure, we recommend starting with a Survivor to Survivor Visit. These private sessions are conducted by trained suicide loss survivor volunteers who can provide one-on-one support.

We understand that you may be unsure about discussing your loss in a virtual support group. Please review our Virtual SafePlace FAQs, which we hope will address any understandable concerns you may have about privacy and the dynamics of a virtual group.

“Finding SafePlace and people that truly understand where I’m coming from and understand my pain is very cathartic for me.”
