Marathon Runner Spotlight: Zachary Jellis

For Zackary Jellis’ family, running and giving back are a way of life.

His wife, Erin, ran the 2024 Boston Marathon with Team Samaritans and raised over $11,000 in honor of her brother Alex, who died by suicide in March 2023. Now, Zackary is thrilled to be tackling the TCS NYC Marathon for Samaritans on November 3rd.

Erin and Zackary want to continue Alex’s legacy through their support of Samaritans.

“So many people have family members that struggle with mental health, and we all need that support. [The fundraising] seems very easy compared to what people are dealing with when it comes to mental health,” Zackary said.

Having run several marathons, including a 50K ultramarathon, Zackary is looking forward to completing yet another.

The truth is, the struggle of the marathon is what you’re actually enjoying, because you feel the success of all that agony and grit and determination when you cross the finish line and then it’s over. So for me, it’s just really about the journey.

Zackary will be running for Samaritans in the NYC Marathon taking place on November 3, 2024. Read his story and support him as he crosses the finish line.
