Make Every Conversation Count for Suicide Prevention & Awareness Month
This September, Suicide Prevention & Awareness Month, learn more about how you can get involved with our mission and start lifesaving conversations in your community.
Start a Conversation
Listen, Ask, Get Help
Many people are afraid to talk about suicide, but it is often a great relief to someone thinking about suicide to know that you have noticed their pain. You can be the first step towards help for someone you care about by recognizing the warning signs of suicide and taking steps to make them feel heard.
Attend Our Events
Samaritans hosts virtual and in-person events to bring our community together, start important conversations about suicide prevention and mental health, and support suicide loss survivors.
Community Gathering on Suicide Prevention:
Samaritans 2025 Annual Meeting
Thursday, October 23, 2025 | 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. ET
Hear from Kyle Anagnos, a suicide loss survivor who found healing and hope through our community and ran the Boston and New York Marathons for Samaritans. Discover how the Every Conversation Counts campaign allows us to offer new, innovative programming and reach more people with our lifesaving services.
Get Grief Support
Samaritans SafePlace meetings are peer support groups offering nonjudgmental listening, peer connection, and shared understanding for those who have lost someone to suicide. We offer virtual and in-person groups, as well as groups for specific populations, including parents and the LGBTQ+ community.

Our Community Partners
We partner with nonprofit organizations and local leaders to develop suicide prevention strategies that meet the unique needs of high-risk and marginalized communities, including young people, Black and Latinx communities, LGBTQ+ people, and certain professions, like veterinarians, professional truck drivers, and construction workers.
Learn about how our community partners prevent suicide in September and throughout the year.
Our Services
The Every Conversation Counts campaign allows us to expand our existing services and offer new, innovative programs that help us reach more people when they need us the most.
Every day, hundreds of people reach out to us for compassionate support, and we are ready to listen, 24/7. As awareness grows for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, we must grow our capacity so we can “answer the call” for all who reach out – day or night.
Hey Sam provides peer-to-peer support via text for teens and young people up to 24 years old. Text 439-726, 9 a.m. – 12 a.m. (midnight) ET.
Suicide Grief Support Services
Losing a loved one to suicide is a painful and difficult experience. Samaritans is here to offer suicide loss survivors nonjudgmental listening and peer support. We provide many programs to support survivors in their grieving.
Community Education & Outreach
Building expertise to prevent suicide is critical to our mission. We’re here to teach communities how to recognize warning signs of suicide and provide support. Schedule a free suicide prevention workshop for your school, workplace, or community.
Survivors of Suicide Attempts (SOSA) Support Group
Our suicide attempt survivor support group can help people who have attempted to take their lives connect in a nonjudgmental and empathetic environment.
Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS) Teams
Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS) Teams are a collaboration between first responders and trained suicide loss survivor volunteers to provide compassionate listening and timely resources to families following a suicide.
