The 2016 5K Run/Walk for Suicide Prevention was held on Saturday, October 1st! Thank you to everyone who came out in the rain to support Samaritans. Together, we raised over $387,000 for suicide prevention!

Event type: USA Track and Field sanctioned 5 kilometer (3.1 miles) run/walk along the Charles River, based at DCR’s Artesani Park, Soldier’s Field Road, for runners, joggers and walkers of all ages. Families and teams welcome. Teams and individuals participating in memory of loved ones lost to suicide are highlighted during the event.
Festivities: Refreshments, Family fun festival & children’s activities, Giveaways, Remembering loved ones, Prizes for running and fundraising achievements for individuals and teams.
Purpose: Mobilize more than 2,000 event participants to raise $400,000 for Samaritans, a nonprofit agency dedicated to reducing the risk of suicide, the second leading cause of death for Massachusetts youth and the nation’s tenth leading cause of death for all ages. All proceeds help fund Samaritans’ life saving services, including our 24/7 Helplines, Community Education and Outreach, and Grief Support Services for those who have lost a loved one to suicide. These vital services are available locally to families, friends and neighbors, free of charge. Samaritans answers calls from Greater Boston, MetroWest, the State Wide toll free number, and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

5K Run/Walk for Suicide Prevention Volunteer Opportunity
Thank you to the amazing volunteers who came out and helped with the 18th Annual 5K Run/Walk for Suicide Prevention on Saturday, October 1 st-we could not have done it without you! This event brings together people to honor and remember the lives lost to suicide, as well as raise funds and awareness for Samaritans’ lifesaving services.
Interested in volunteering for next year’s 5K? We will be looking for volunteers to assist with the following positions:
- Course Management
- Raffle/Silent Auction
- Food/Water Distribution
- Family Fun Festival
