Marathon Runner Spotlight: Montanna Cassel

Montanna Cassel had always dreamed of running a marathon before she turned 25, and she knew she wanted to run for Samaritans.

Montanna lost her father to suicide in 2022. For a long time, she felt isolated in her grief. It was difficult for her to discuss her loss with the people around her. Now, she wants other loss survivors to know that they are not alone.

“There are so many people connected to suicide that you just don’t realize at the beginning.”

Since her father’s passing, Montanna has taken every chance she can to normalize the discussion of suicide and mental health. She is running the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon for Samaritans to help people feel safe in reaching out without fear of judgment.

I think that this is an opportunity for so many people to talk about this with their friends and family, and they may indirectly help someone who’s currently suffering.

Montanna will be fulfilling her dream of running for Samaritans at the TCS NYC Marathon this fall, taking place on November 3, 2024. Read her story and support her run.
