Being a college student isn’t easy. We’re here to chat about anything and to support you through a tough time.
IM Hear_ is an online instant messaging program of Samaritans. It is dedicated to providing online emotional support and to the prevention of suicide among college students. Begun in 2012, this online chat service provides confidential peer support and understanding to students who are struggling with feelings of depression, loneliness and stress. When trained Samaritan volunteers are available, IM Hear_ will operate Monday through Friday from 5pm- 9pm. Samaritans is working diligently to build the capacity to offer this service on a consistent basis as well as to increase the hours of availability.
There are a million reasons to feel alone. Samaritans are available to talk about any of them. Users of the IM Hear_ chat service do not have to be feeling suicidal, and most are not. Here, students can receive support, respect, acceptance and tolerance – for whatever reason.
